The Chess program is available on BBC iplayer

    33. Qe6 feels stronger to me because it keeps 2 pieces under attack and protects the somewhat pivotal g4.

  3. SuperWorldwide23 says:

Also, 29….Rh4 looks stronger than 29…Rxf1. The White Queen would have to move to e2 or d1. Then Black would have the strong looking 30….Ng4. With a double attack on the h2 pawn and the threat of Be5 putting more pressure on h2.

  4. SuperWorldwide23 says:

I think it should go 25.Nxe5 Qe8! Black has lost a pawn but still has attacking chances. …Note, after 25.Nxe5 Qe8 26. Nc7? doesn’t help white as 26….Bxe5! wins a piece for Black.

i wish i got friggen chess channels :/

  9. corny165 says:

The queen was pinned to the king.

  10. barsorrro says:

Is this possible that the White have missed an earlier mating opportunity with 38. Qg7?

  11. leratluci says:

@TheHuginMunin if he takes the bishop on move 28 with Rxd2, after 29. Rxd2 – Nf4 the queen has the d1 square to go away from the trap cause the withe rook has moved from there

  12. Impresentation says:

I was wondering whether at move 25 if -after 25 Nxe5 instead of playing Nxe5- Bxe5 attacking the rook was stronger?

  13. PrzystankersFCB says:

    What’s wrong with Rh4 instead of Rxf1?

  14. Impresentation says:

    @TheHuginMunin
No Bishop can take d2, but the black rook can but if 28 Rxd2, then 29 Rxd2 and the Queen has an escape square in d1.

  15. TheHuginMunin says:

So, if the queen was actually trapped, why not simply take the defending bishop with 28. Bxd2?

  16. jewbinson says:

I saw it for a bit, but it was going through the basics of chess – castling, so I thought “oh not another one of those programmes” and left

  17. Dpz052 says:

I think this game illustrates the psychological crush of unseen tactic. I doubt it was even sound.
